Innovation in Action: How Canada’s Farm Show Regina Celebrates Saskatchewan Ingenuity

Canada’s Farm Show Regina, SK, presented by Bunge, has long been a meeting place for the people and ideas shaping the future of agriculture. Known across the industry as CFS, the event is built on three pillars that continue to guide Saskatchewan agriculture forward: innovation, collaboration, and education.

All three pillars are essential to the business of farming. Innovation drives efficiency and solves real-world challenges. Collaboration connects producers, researchers, and businesses. Education ensures new knowledge and technology reach the farm gate.

Saskatchewan has always had a reputation for practical ingenuity. Long before modern ag-tech became a buzzword, innovation was happening right here in Regina and across the province.

In 1977, the world’s first full-service ATM was launched in Regina at what was then Sherwood Credit Union, now Conexus. Decades earlier, in 1932, Herbert McCool created Easy-Off Oven Cleaner in his Regina basement, selling it door-to-door before it became a globally recognized household product. These stories reflect a broader Saskatchewan mindset—identify a need, create a solution, and share it with the world.

That same mindset is deeply rooted in agriculture.

The Western Development Museum, with locations in Moose Jaw, Yorkton, Saskatoon, and North Battleford, has recorded more than 3,200 patents for inventions originating in Saskatchewan between 1905 and 1980. Approximately 25 percent of those patents relate to agricultural equipment, many developed by farmers themselves.

Ploughs, discers, rod weeders, harvesting machines, and transportation equipment were created to address Prairie conditions and improve productivity. Transport innovation also became essential, ensuring agricultural goods could move safely and efficiently from Saskatchewan farms to markets across Canada and around the world.

Innovation has been part of agriculture since the first seed was intentionally planted. On the Prairies, it has meant adapting to dryland conditions, improving soil health, and developing tools that make farming more sustainable and productive. But innovation does not happen in isolation.

Collaboration between farmers, researchers, manufacturers, and ag businesses has helped Saskatchewan remain a leader in agricultural development. Education—from experimental farms to modern research institutions—continues to support producers with the knowledge they need to succeed.

For more than 40 years, Canada’s Farm Show Regina has brought these elements together under one roof at REAL District. What began as a regional agricultural exhibition has grown into one of North America’s premier dryland farming events, attracting producers and industry leaders from across Canada and around the globe.

At CFS, you can see Saskatchewan ingenuity firsthand—whether it’s emerging ag technology, equipment advancements, sustainability practices, or producer-led solutions. The event is more than a farm show; it is a celebration of the innovation, collaboration, and education that define Canadian agriculture.

Experience the ideas and partnerships shaping the future of farming. Join us at Canada’s Farm Show Regina, SK, presented by Bunge, March 17–19, 2026, at REAL District and be part of the innovation driving agriculture forward.
